Summer plans may look different this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun. Life On Grand Avenue spent a week in Breckenridge and the trip ended up being more fun than we could have ever expected. This was our first time in Breckenridge during Summer but will absolutely not be our last. I can see this being on our list of places to visit every year if we can.
We stayed at the Grand Timber Lodge, which is a great location and minutes from downtown Breckenridge. The lodge offers a shuttle that can take you around town. We opted to walk most of the time because it’s only a few blocks from downtown. The lodge has several pools and hot tubs perfect for kids and adults.

The lodge backdrop is set against gorgeous mountain views and hiking trails all close to the lodge. We went on several hikes to different trails and even a lake all within close proximity to the lodge and easy for kids as well.
The agenda for the week was to relax and enjoy nature. There is no shortage of any of this in Breckenridge during the Summer. You could honestly just go on a hike and end up with the most gorgeous views of the mountains and city. Everywhere we went there were people hiking, running, rock climbing, and cycling.

The lodge we stayed in had a kitchen so we decided to cook a few meals and eat out a few meals. The downtown of Breckenridge itself has endless amounts of restaurants to enjoy for everyone. Since, we went during Covid, all the restaurants put their tables and chairs outside on main street. The street was closed to drivers and only allowed pedestrians. Masks were enforced but it didn’t make the experience any less fun.

A few of the restaurants we enjoyed were Castaways Cove(tiki bar with amazing food), La Francaise French Bakery(best almond croissants), and the Carboy Winery(just for cocktails though).
Wondering what to do with kids in Breckenridge during the Summer? There are again endless amounts of activities for kids.
You could visit the Troll of Breckenridge, a 15 ft. wooden troll sculpture. After this you could take either one of the hikes offered along these trails. We actually, brought a picnic and just ate by the creek to enjoy the afternoon.

There are several places to rent bikes or bike trailer in Breckenridge for the day. A bike path goes from Breckenridge to Frisco(the next town over) and you ride along the Blue River with the mountain view in the distance. This is a breathtaking ride and a great way to spend the day.
Cucumber Gulch is a wildlife preserve that kids would also enjoy. Next to the gulch is the White River National Forest which does have several hiking trails as well.

We spent a total of five days and had more than enough to do. Honestly, I could have sat on our porch and stared at the mountains and been content the whole time.
What to pack in Breckenridge during the Summer?
The temperatures were pretty mild for us during the week. Mornings were a little cool in the 50s and at night as well. During the day it would get up into the 70s and would feel very warm but never humid, which I loved.

Mostly I packed joggers, shirts for layering, a couple of fleece hoodies, denim jacket, and a pair of tennis shoes and sandals. Cozy and comfortable is definitely the key in the mountains. I also shared this black backpack I took with us that was the exact accessory you want.
Looking forward to the next time we can go back but until then I’ll be dreaming about those mountain views and breathtaking scenes.
