Hotel Récamier In Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Hotel Récamier
During my recent visit to Paris, we stayed at the Hotel Récamier in Saint-Germain-des-Prés or the 6th arrondissement. This is my absolute favorite arrondissement to stay in and my third time staying here since my first trip to Paris years ago.
Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is lively, chic, and full of marvelous cafés like, Café de Flore, Les Deux Magots, and Brasserie Lipp. The Luxembourg Gardens are close nearby and the Louvre is within walking distance right across the river.
A friend had stayed at Hotel Récamier years ago and I remember her saying it was nice and in a great location. For me, location is everything when I am trying to decide where to stay.
The past several times we’ve always stayed in an apartment but this time since it was two women traveling alone, we though it best to stay in a hotel. You can about how I planned our Paris trip in this post here.
The hotel is located across from Saint-Sulpice church and fountain which is a wonderful landmark to be able to tell your taxi driver(speaking from experience)of course.
There’s also a great little café right across the way perfect for an afternoon glass of champagne.
A Hidden Gem in Saint-Germain-des-Prés
To me, Hotel Récamier is like a hidden gem inside the 6th arrondissement. It’s tucked away nestled in a corner that you would almost miss it if not for the landmark church. The hotel only has 24 rooms of which are all different, very charming and a friendly staff.
The staff immediately greets you upon entering the hotel day and or night. They will also hold your room key for you while you are out and give back to you upon your return.
For a European boutique hotel, the room size is what you would expect as well as the bathroom size. Don’t go expecting the size of an American hotel because that is not what you will find here.
However, what you will find is complete and utter Parisian charm.
Our room had a true Parisian balcony which is what I had been hoping for where we could open the windows and hear the church bells ring.
Each morning the monsieur from downstairs would send up two café crèmes to our room for us to enjoy while waking up and getting ready for the day. The hotel does provide a breakfast buffet but at this time is on hiatus due to covid restrictions.
However, when requested they still provided a bread basket of freshly baked pain au chocolates and baguettes with jam. They will deliver this to your room or you may eat breakfast in the lounge area.
The room came equipped with wifi, a tv(although we never turned it on), 2 twin beds, and air conditioning. Believe it or not but some hotels still don’t have AC so this is always a plus. There were also toiletries and a hair dryer which is always nice to have instead of having to lug one half way across the globe.
If you are looking for a classic and charming Parisian hotel in an excellent location then look no further than Hotel Récamier in Saint Germain-des-Prés. You will not be disappointed and I am already counting down the days until our next stay here.
