What To Pack For Paris In Fall

Paris in the Fall is one of my favorite times to be in the city of light. The summer crowds have died down, the city is abuzz with the return of school time, the leaves turn into beautiful fall colors, and it’s still perfect patio season. Today, I am sharing a roundup of items you should pack so you can enjoy the best of Paris in the fall.

The weather in Paris in the fall can also be unpredictable with more rain showers in between sunny days, and crisp mornings and cooler evenings in general. Knowing what to pack for the fall and autumn seasons will help you stay comfortable while also looking chic throughout your trip.

Weather In Paris During Fall

During the fall season, the temperatures in Paris can range from a high of 70s to low 50s during the month of September. In November, temperatures are around 50s during the day and 40s in the evenings.

Rain is also more common during the fall season, so you will want to be prepared with layering pieces, waterproof booties, and a good coat.

Tops To Pack For Paris In Fall

You will want to pack a variety of tops for Paris that you can easily wear with jeans and trousers. Go for a classic button-down in either white, blue or even a stripe option.

You can wear the top by itself, layered under a blazer, or even under a sweater to stay extra warm.

My favorite button-downs for the fall season which are timeless options for Paris in autumn are this J.Crew stripe, this classic white from ME+EM (worth every penny), this one from Sézane, and this one from Veronica Beard.

Layering tops are also necessary to pack for Paris in the fall. Pieces like silk camis to wear under blazers or sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, and even short-sleeve tees are great options. The weather can be unpredictable but with layering tops, you will always be prepared.

I have learned over the years what pieces I absolutely must pack for Paris, and layering pieces are at the top of the list.

Sweaters To Pack

Since the fall season brings with it cooler temperatures, you will want to pack several sweaters for Paris. Go for cashmere which is not only warm but looks luxurious as well.

Stick with a neutral color palette such as navy, black, grey, or even a camel/cream color for the autumn season.

Some of my favorite sweaters I like to pack for Paris are this Sézane, this Gaspard(bought it in navy as well), this Vince Navy, and this Alex Mill.

Denim for Paris in fall

Denim is a mainstay for Paris in the fall, so make sure to pack one or two pairs that you can easily mix and match throughout your time in the city of light. Pack a light and dark pair for maximum versatility.

Parisians love their straight-leg denim to wear with boots and sneakers. You can also go for a flare or wide-leg style as well in a dark color such as a rigid or even a black pair to blend in with the locals.

Try these rigid flare options from J.Crew or this wide-leg option from Paige, I have taken both of these to Paris during fall.

BOTTOMs to pack

Other options for bottoms to pack for Paris in fall besides jeans are a great pair of trousers. A classic pair of trousers can easily be dressed up with a button-down and booties or dressed down with a sweater and sneakers.

Stick to a neutral color palette when selecting trousers to wear in Paris like navy, black, or even a fall cream color.

Some of my favorite pants to wear in Paris are these J.Crew in black, these Cuynana wide-leg (wearing above), and these Reformation pants (wearing above).

Blazers For Paris

Blazers are a chic and classic option to pack for Paris in the autumn season. They are timeless, easy to layer, and mix and match.

You can layer a cashmere sweater underneath to stay warm, or a classic button-down for a timeless look. During the evenings wear the blazer with a silk cami for an elevated dinner look.

It’s best to stick with neutral colors such as black or navy for the blazer. If you want to add some texture then go with a plaid blazer. My favorite blazers are this one from Sézane, this Veronica Beard classic, this one from J.Crew, and this one from Sandro.

Coats To Pack For Paris In Autumn

As the weather starts to get cooler in Paris during fall, you want to be well-prepared with a coat. Days can be rainy and cool which are perfect for a trench coat, my favorite is the Scott Trench from Sézane.

You can also pack a wool coat as well, especially if you are someone who gets cold easily. I have found more than anything, fall days can be windy, and the breeze which comes off the Seine can be quite chilly.

Packing one trench and one heavier coat such as a wool option is best. You can also pack a leather jacket for evenings out if you’re someone who prefers lighter options.

SHOES TO PACK FOR PARIS

Paris is a walking city and one also with a lot of cobblestone streets, so you want to make sure to pack comfortable shoes to see the sights.

During fall and autumn, it’s best to pack a pair of boots that are waterproof as well as comfortable. Great options are this Blondo pair and this pair as well. My favorite pair to take and the ones I am wearing above are these Aquatalia.

Loafers and Ballet Flats are also stylish and chic shoe options to pack for Paris as well. Go with an on-trend shoe of the season but always a classic for Parisians, the loafer. You can opt for a black pair of loafers like these or these( which I purchased for fall), or a two-tone color option such as these.

If you prefer ballet flats to loafers then go with a pair such as these, a Mary Jane option such as these, or these beautiful Veronica Beard flats.

For evenings or dinners out try a black slingback, two-tone pump, or even tall boots to wear with dresses and skirts.

Sneakers For Paris In Fall

Sneakers are one of the most popular shoe options to walk around Paris. Gone are the days when sneakers were a fashion faux pas in Paris. Now, all the Parisians are wearing sneakers to walk around the city and they are perfect for Paris in October.

Go with popular brands such as VEJA, Axel Arigato, or Stan Smith. Or opt for something from Sézane or New Balance (ones I bought in Paris).

Bags For Paris In Autumn

The best kind of bag to take to Paris is one you will feel comfortable carrying around for the day. I like to take my Longchamp in either black or navy to use as a tote during the day when I want to put a change of shoes or even a scarf inside.

When I want to use a crossbody, I will use either my Sézane Milo or A.P.C. Grace Bag. Designer options would be this YSL Camera Bag a Celine or anything from this list.

Other less expensive options are J.Crew, Mango, Cuyana, or Madewell.

Accessories

You will want to make sure you pack a few scarves to not only stay warm but also look chic as well. Go for this cashmere and silk one, this oversized scarf, or this one.

To wear as a chic piece use this scarf, this one, or this Sézane scarf.

Also, remember accessories like a classic black and brown belt. And, simple jewelry pieces like this necklace, or a fancier one, and simple bracelets.

Travel Accessories

If you’re traveling to Paris in a carry-on, go with this suitcase, these packing cubes. Don’t forget other essentials such as a travel umbrella, adapters, and one of the most important, a portable charger for your phone.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your emails and posts. The clothes are fantastic and the styles you show are so inspiring. Modern and classic at the same time. Keep it up!
    Thanks, Angela

  2. All of your clothing recommendations are so expensive. I , for one, could not afford a 695$ blazer. How about doing another post with clothing options the average person can afford.

    1. Hi Monica,
Thanks so much for your feedback. Yes, I always like to recommend pieces that I believe in the quality of the piece for the investment. I am sure you also saw the blazers from J.Crew and Banana Republic. I will definitely take your feedback into consideration moving forward. Thank you so much.
      Have a great day, Noelani
