French Girl Inspired Winter Coats

Classic Coats French Girls Are Wearing

Here are the 5 classic and chic coats, French girls are wearing now for the autumn and winter season. I saw these types of coats all over the streets of Paris this November.

These French girl inspired winter coats are timeless, have neutral color palettes, and can be worn season after season. Plus, they are comfortable and cozy but elevate the most basic outfits.

During the winter months, sometimes I feel like the only part of my outfit people see is my coat. So, I have no problem investing in a beautiful-looking coat because it basically becomes the focal point of my outfit.

Here are coat styles I saw on the streets of Paris that are easy to wear, attainable, and will have you looking chic for the winter season.

The Camel Coat

The camel coat is so timeless and classic and this one from Sézane couldn’t be any more beautiful. Camel is such a beautiful staple during the Winter season, but finding the right shade of camel can be a bit tricky.

You want to make sure it goes with your skin tone and the color doesn’t drown you out. Once you find that perfect one though, you will wear it for years.

I saw Parisian women wearing their camel coats tied like above but also with the straps down and open. You can wear a camel coat casually with pants or jeans and sneakers or dress it up with a long dress or trousers.

The Wool Coat

Outfit 2: Claudie Pierlot Coat (similar) | Mother Denim | Nili Lotan Top | Sneakers

Wool is always a staple in any French woman’s closet during the winter season. It not only helps to keep you warm but also looks timeless and is always classic.

Go for a belted version or a shorter version, either one is sure to keep you warm and cozy this winter season.

My favorite wool coats are from Sézane, Mango, and J.Crew. Of course, a navy wool coat is always very chic and Parisian plus it will last for seasons to come.

The Cream Coat

The beautiful and striking cream coat stands out among the rest of the darker colors and looks elegant and tailored. A cream coat tends to look a bit more dressed up but it’s just as easy to wear it casually with jeans as well.

I picked up this ba&sh coat while in Paris in November and couldn’t be happier with the relaxed yet detailed look of the coat. This will be one I will be wearing for years to come.

The Boucle Coat

A Boucle coat, which comes from the French word boucle, to curl, is a beautiful and soft textured fabric that looks chic, especially in a lighter shade. I saw several women wearing this style of coat in short and long lengths.

The Navy Coat

Parisian women wear navy more than anyone else and do it so elegantly and make it look incredibly chic. A favorite color combination of Parisians, in general, is navy and black.

The Sézane Paolo is a great navy option for the winter season to look timeless and classic.

  1. Hi! Love this post. All your outfits are so chic. Question: How does the warmth of the Sezane Mederick coat compare to the warmth of the Sezane Johnson coat? I noticed the Mederick is unlined. Is it still warm? I love the look of that one, but I am cold natured and don’t want to buy a coat that isn’t also warm. Thanks in advance if you have time to respond!

    1. Hi there! Thank you so much for reading. The Mederick is very warm even though it’s unlined. It’s longer than the Johnson so that’s something to keep in mind and it’s much more relaxed. The Johnson is more structured and fitted if that makes sense. The Mederick is 100% wool and the Johnson is 75% wool so also something to think about. However, the lining in the Johnson does give it a bit more warmth. Hope that helps!

  2. Good morning. We are planning on a trip to France ….one stop is Paris. I travel via carry on and tote. Not real sure what to pack…. would all jeans, one dress and one dressy pant be ok ?
I have nice tops and couple cashmere sweaters. Time of year would be April. In general I wear black and white or all black. Normally wear a fedora. Any advice is welcome. Thank you
