How To Dress Like A Parisian Woman During Fall
How To Dress Like A Parisian Woman During Fall
We all know Parisian women emulate that je ne sais quoi we all admire and the fall season is no exception.
Fall is a season of change, and that includes what you wear. However, it shouldn’t be about going out and buying a whole new closet.
Always stick with classic, elevated pieces that are neutral and that you can easily mix and match with other items in your wardrobe already.
Keep these French essentials on hand at all times throughout the year. French wardrobe staples, like a pair of straight-leg denim, a white tee, and a blazer or cardigan.
I always like to mention that dressing like a Parisian woman is attainable to anyone. You don’t have to be French or live in Paris to dress like a French woman.
It’s all about wearing classic, elevated, polished, timeless pieces. French women are just masters at the art of effortless style.
Outfits To Wear For Fall To Look Parisian
wool coat
A classic wool coat can add instant polish to your look like a Parisian woman during fall and elevate even the most basic outfits. There are so many different options you can choose from. If you’re not ready for a wool coat yet where you live, maybe go with a classic trench coat.
Depending on your height, you can consider the length of your coat. If you’re more on the petite side, under 5’4″, you might want to stick with a length above or right below the knee.
For taller ladies, opt for a longer length. However, I always say to wear what makes you comfortable and makes you feel good.
A few of my favorite wool coats for the season are the Johnson and the James Coat from Sézane. The Toggle Coat and Topcoat from J.Crew.
Another beautiful color for fall and even into winter is a camel in all different shades. Finding a camel coat that matches your skin tone can be tricky.
I’ve been looking for a few years and found this one from Sézane this year, which is exactly what I am looking for. It’s on the longer side, but I think it makes the coat look more elegant and dressier.
If you aren’t sure about Sézane sizing, read this post here, A Guide To Sézane Sizing, to help you.

Blazer
Blazers are not only a French essential but also my favorite piece of clothing. I love the way they can be so simple yet make an outfit look so incredibly chic.
You will find a blazer in every Parisian woman’s closet for fall and winter. There are so many different blazers you can wear.
Choose neutral colors like black, navy, and camel. You can also go with a blazer with some texture, like plaid or houndstooth.
If you like to wear what’s trendy for the season, you can choose an oversized or menswear-inspired blazer for fall and autumn.
The ultimate Parisian style is a blazer with straight-leg jeans, boots or loafers, and an essential layering piece like a tee or cami.
I love blazers from Sézane, like this Michele Jacket. I also like this Captain’s Blazer from Banana Republic, and J.Crew has a great selection of classic blazers.

Classic trousers or jeans
Straight-leg jeans are my go-to style and very much a go-to style for most Parisian women. Not only are they flattering but for me, they give the illusion of longer legs. Since I am 5′ 5 1/2 I prefer styles that help me look taller.
My favorite brands for straight-leg denim are Mother, AGOLDE, and Madewell. Purchase a great pair of denim you will wear for years. Denim is definitely an area of your wardrobe you should invest in because a great pair of jeans not only makes you look amazing but also feels amazing.
For Parisian style, go with darker shades of dark blue or black for that ultimate classic look.
Wear straight-leg jeans with boots, loafers, or sneakers to look like a Parisian woman.
Trousers are also a great alternative to jeans and another staple for dressing like a Parisian woman in the fall. My favorite trousers are from Aritzia and J.Crew.

Cardigan
Nothing is more cozy yet sophisticated than a great-looking cardigan. For days when I wanted that effortless vibe yet still wanted to look put together, I reached for a cardigan.
You can opt to wear the cardigan layered with a silk cami or tee or just leave the cardigan and don’t wear anything underneath.
Also, tuck your cardigan in for a polished look or leave it hanging for more of a relaxed look. I personally love more of a shorter cardigan but a longer one looks just as nice.
My favorite place for cardigans and knitwear is always Sézane. The quality is beautiful, the pieces are classic French, and I always feel a bit more Parisian when wearing them.
For fall and winter, I am wearing the Gaspard, which can be worn with the buttons in front or back, and the Betty Cardigan.
Another favorite cardigan is this stripe from J.Crew and this fisherman from Quince.

STRIPE TOP
A stripe top is quintessential French and one you will always find in a French woman’s closet no matter the season. You can go with the classic marinière like this one from Sézane or this option.
Or, you can also go with a stripe sweater during the fall season to wear with denim or trousers. For an elevated and playful look, go with a stripe that includes sparkle.

Loafers
Loafers are always in style for Parisian women because they are a classic staple. You can dress them up or down, wearing loafers with straight-leg jeans or trousers.
My personal favorite is these Sam Edelman ( I wear my normal size), which are affordable. I have also been wearing these Vicky Loafers nonstop this fall season; I went down a size. They are so incredibly comfortable for all-day wear.
You can also go with a lug sole which is everywhere this season, try one from Madewell, or Sam Edelman. If loafers are not your ideal shoe style, you can always wear a pair of ballet flats, which are just as French.

structured classic handbag
A classic handbag never goes out of style no matter the season and that includes the fall and autumn. One way to dress like a Parisian woman in fall is with a crossbody leather bag of quality.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be a designer handbag, but one that is timeless, and has nice quality. Of course you can always go with a neutral color like black or camel. For a more seasonal trend go with a shade of burgundy or chocolate brown.

Hopefully, these pieces show how easy and attainable it is to dress like a Parisian woman during fall. All it takes are classic, stylish, and versatile basics to add to your wardrobe that you can wear for years to come.
