How To Dress Like A Parisian Woman During Fall

Outfits To Wear For Fall To Look Parisian

If you’re wanting to be stylish and chic this fall and autumn season and dress with that effortless Parisian woman look, make sure you have these 10 items in your wardrobe.

Fall is all about a season of change and that includes what you wear but it shouldn’t be about going out and having to buy a whole new closet. Always stick with classic, elevated pieces which are neutral and that you can easily mix and match with other items in your wardrobe already.

Keep these French essentials on hand at all times throughout the year. Essentials are as basic as a pair of straight-leg denim, a white tee, and a blazer or cardigan.

One thing I always like to mention is dressing like a Parisian woman is attainable to anyone. You don’t have to be French or live in Paris to dress like a French woman. It’s all about wearing pieces that are classic, elevated, polished, and timeless. French women are just masters at the art of effortless style.

However, following these 10 tips on what to wear during Fall and Winter will have you looking like a French woman in no time.

Wool Coat

A classic wool coat can add instant polish for looking like a Parisian woman during fall and help to elevate the most basic of outfits. There are so many different options you can go with. Depending on your height you can think about the length of your coat.

If you’re more on the petite side, under 5’4″ you might want to stick with a length above or right below the knee. For taller ladies, opt for a longer length. Although, I always say to wear what makes you comfortable and makes you feel good.

My favorite wool coat is the Johnson coat in navy from Sézane. Navy is such a beautiful, timeless, and elegant-looking color. I sized up in the coat so I can wear it with sweaters and layer underneath. The coat also comes in several other colors but to me, the navy is the most beautiful.

Another beautiful color for fall and even into winter is a camel in all different shades. Finding a camel coat that matches your skin tone can be a bit tricky.

I’ve been looking for a few years now and found this one from Sézane this year, which is exactly what I am looking for. It’s on the longer side but I think it makes the coat look more elegant and a bit more dressy.

If you aren’t sure about Sézane sizing, read this post here, A Guide To Sézane Sizing, to help you out.

Other options are this one from Mango, this investment piece from Anine Bing, and the Downing Coat from Reformation.

Blazer

Blazers are not only a French essential but my favorite piece of clothing to wear. I love the way blazers can be so simple yet make an outfit look so incredibly chic.

You will find a blazer in every Parisian woman’s closet for fall and winter. There are so many different blazers you can wear.

Choose neutral colors like black, navy, and camel. Or go with a blazer with some texture like plaid or houndstooth.

If you are someone who likes to wear what’s more trendy for the season, you can choose an oversized or menswear-inspired blazer for fall and autumn.

The ultimate Parisian style is a blazer with straight-leg jeans, boots or loafers, and a basic layering piece like a tee or cami.

I love blazers from Sézane like this Michele Jacket, also this Captain’s Blazer from Banana Republic and J.Crew also has a great selection of classic blazers.

Straight Leg Jeans

Straight-leg jeans are my go-to style and very much a go-to style for most Parisian women. Not only are they flattering but for me, they give the illusion of longer legs. Since I am 5′ 5 1/2 I prefer styles that help me look taller.

My favorite brands for straight-leg denim are MOTHER, AGOLDE, and Madewell. Purchase a great pair of denim you will wear for years. Denim is definitely an area of your wardrobe you should invest in because a great pair of jeans not only make you look amazing but you will also feel just as amazing.

For Parisian style, go with darker shades of dark blue or black for that ultimate classic look.

Wear straight-leg jeans with boots, loafers, or sneakers to look like a Parisian woman.

Cardigan

Nothing is more cozy yet sophisticated than a great-looking cardigan. For days when I want that effortless vibe, yet still want to look put together I reach for a cardigan.

You can opt to wear the cardigan layered with a silk cami or tee or just leave the cardigan and don’t wear anything underneath.

Also, tuck your cardigan in for a polished look or leave it hanging for more of a relaxed look. I personally love more of a shorter cardigan but a longer one looks just as nice.

My favorite place for cardigans and knitwear, in general, is always Sézane. The quality is beautiful, the pieces are classic French, and I always feel a bit more Parisian when wearing them.

For fall and winter, I am wearing the Basile Cardigan, the Emile Cardigan (I sized up for a relaxed fit to M), and always the Gaspard Cardigan (I wear a small). From MERSEA, another favorite brand I am wearing the Anywear Cardigan in the midnight and sand color as seen above.

Two other investment cardigans I am also wearing are the Lou Lou Paris and the Gaspard from ba&sh which I purchased in Paris. This cardigan is so incredibly chic and classic looking. It goes great with jeans and trousers, I absolutely love this cardigan.

Breton Top

Nothing is a more classic Parisian style and no better way to dress like a Parisian woman than wearing a Breton top or sweater for fall and autumn.

You can either wear a striped top casually like this one from MERSEA (one size fits all), J.Crew, or my personal favorite from Sézane.

Wear the Breton with straight-leg or boot-cut jeans or trousers. Layer it under a blazer or cardigan or wear it by itself.

Some favorite Breton sweaters for the season to wear like a Parisian woman are this Mango oversized sweater, Trudy Jumper from Sézane which I own, or this one from & Other Stories which looks a lot like an overpriced designer one.

If you want to wear a striped button-down instead then go with one that has vertical stripes to help elongate your body like this classy one from Alex Mill or this one from Everlane which has a relaxed fit with a white collar to stand out.

Loafers

Loafers are always in style for Parisian women because they are such a classic staple. You can dress them up or down, wearing loafers with straight-leg jeans or trousers.

My personal favorite is these Sam Edelman ( I wear my normal size) which are an affordable price point, also my investment pair, the Gucci Jordan Horsebit (normal European size).

You can also go with a lug sole which is everywhere this season, try one from Madewell, or Sam Edelman.

Hopefully, these pieces show how easy and attainable it is to dress like a Parisian woman during fall. All it takes are classic, stylish, and versatile basics to add to your wardrobe that you can wear for years to come.
