8 Shoes To Wear With Cropped Jeans In Paris

Leave it to French and Parisian women to make even a classic pair of jeans look chic and stylish. Jeans have become a staple in any fashionable French woman’s wardrobe because of their versatility; they can be worn any time of the year and dressed up or down depending on the occasion. 

Crop denim or ankle length is a Parisian summer style staple, so when I head across the ocean for a trip to Paris during the warmer months, I always pack a pair of cropped jeans. Lighter blue, straight-leg jeans are my go-to, but when wearing jeans in Paris, as long as you stick to classic denim and avoid holes or distressing of any kind, you will be looking Parisian chic.

One thing I, along with Parisian women, love about cropped denim is its versatility in styling with various wardrobe pieces. There’s no one-size-fits-all way of styling them. Switching up your shoes, for example, is a great way to give your cropped jeans a different look. Today, I’m rounding up shoes to wear with cropped jeans, whether you’re in Paris or channeling Parisian style.

Ballet Flats

If I had to pick one shoe as the quintessential Parisian women’s shoe, it would be the ballet flat. If you’re wondering what shoes to wear with wide-leg crop jeans, these are it. They also look great with cropped flare jeans and kick-crop jeans. 

Two of my favorite ballet flats are the Danza from M.Gemi, which has a small wedge in the heel for added support, and my Chanel ballet flats (similar option), which are as classic as they get and perfect for elevating a casual outfit.

Slingbacks

Parisian women also like to dress up their jeans by pairing them with Chanel Slingbacks. Slingbacks work with just about any style of cropped jeans. The French Sole slingbacks and these from Nordstrom give you the same look at a more affordable price.

Try this look by pairing one of the pairs above with high-rise, cropped slim, or skinny jeans with a slight flare and a hem that hits just above your ankle bone. 

Loafers

During your time in Paris, women love to dress up their jeans by wearing Gucci or Prada Loafers. I wrote a post on how to wear loafers because this shoe style is so popular among Parisian women. Black loafers look chic with blue or black cropped denim. A white tee, black blazer, and chunky black loafers are perfectly styled with a classic pair of cropped jeans. My two favorite places to buy loafers are Madewell and Sézane . 

Mary Janes

There are several stylish ways to wear Mary Janes, including with cropped jeans. One of my favorite ways to wear Mary Janes with jeans is to add a trench coat with a button-down. This combination also creates a casual yet polished look. 

The Sézane Solene Babies have always been my favorite pair of Mary Janes. Although they are no longer available, Sézane has several other pairs worth purchasing, including the Paula Babies or the Elodie.

Ankle Boots Or Booties

Ankle boots, or booties, are a must-have for fall in Paris. They also look great with a sleek pair of cropped jeans. It’s up to personal preference whether you prefer some skin to show at the top of the boot. I wear these Sézane Axelle boots more than any other pair. They are so comfortable and perfect for adding color to any outfit. 

Given how sporadic the weather can be during fall, winter, and spring in Paris, I also highly recommend having a good pair of waterproof booties. When the weather turns wet, you can easily swap them for your regular ankle boots without having to change out of your cropped jeans. I adore these investment-worthy Margaux booties, and this waterproof pair from Blondo is a good option as well. 

Sneakers

Parisians love a good pair of sneakers for a laidback, casual look. Fortunately, there are many options for pairing with cropped, wide-leg or skinny jeans. 

The Stan Smith is one sneaker Parisians are always wearing. The green and navy styles are the most popular. Also, from Adidas, the Sambas, Gazelle, and Spezial are crazy popular in Paris right now as well.

If those aren’t your style, the V-10s or Campo sneakers from VEJA, one of Paris’s most popular sneaker brands, are perfect for days spent on your feet.

Sandals

In Paris during the summer, you’ll see many women wearing crop denim with sandals. The Hermès Oran Sandals are among my favorite pairs of sandals, but these leather sandals are an affordable lookalike that looks great with jeans.

I invest in several Sézane sandals every spring and summer because they’re effortlessly chic and super comfortable. Several great options exist, including Low Aly, Rosa, and Judith. For a great pair of K. Jacques St Tropez lookalikes, try these from TKEES. 

The Sézane Gloria Sandals are my top pick and the pair I travel with almost every time I visit Paris. They’re super comfortable, and Parisians love gold sandals and heels. The Maxine High Sandals are another great pair of heeled sandals that can be dressed up or down, which gives them the ability to instantly elevate any pair of cropped jeans. 

This past summer I took and wore the Margaux Lena Sandal with black crop denim and they were the perfect mix of comfort and chic for the city.
