5 Fall To Winter Wardrobe Basics
Fall To Winter Wardrobe
Fall to Winter wardrobe basics could be a very long list consisting of many items. However, today we are focusing on 5 Fall to Winter wardrobe basics that will take you from one season to the next. These are items that I consider a must-have in your closet for Fall to Winter wardrobe basics.
I’ll link the items I am wearing but will also give some additional similar pieces as well to give a little variety.
1. Great Wool Coat
Like anything else, I truly believe a great wool coat is an investment piece and an item you should pay a little more for. For years, I would buy coats from Target and Old Navy that I would then toss away at the end of the season because they didn’t hold up.
Several years ago for Christmas, I asked for this classic lady day coat and am so thankful I put it on my list. After several seasons of wearing this coat, it’s still in amazing condition. It doesn’t pill, doesn’t stretch out, and still looks as beautiful as the first day I put it on. I am wearing a size 6 which is my normal size and I can wear sweaters underneath.
Another coat I finally bought this year is this beautiful Johnson Coat in Navy from Sèzane. This is a coat I have been eyeing for a few years not but could never decide on a color. I went with Navy and it’s so incredibly well made, fits perfectly, and is very classy looking. This isn’t a coat you’d wear on a full Winter’s day with snow but anything above 40 degrees and it’s perfect. I sized up in this coat so I can wear sweaters underneath and have enough room.
One tip to keep jackets looking beautiful year after year is to take them to a dry cleaner after the season to be cleaned and then keep them wrapped up until you need them again.

2. Sweater
Sweaters are a great layering piece to wear from Fall to Winter. You can wear them under your coat, around your shoulders, with a button-down underneath. Sweaters can be considered as everything from crew neck, turtleneck, v neck, and even cardigan.
Sweaters also come in many different materials. My ultimate favorite is cashmere but this does cost a bit more. I also prefer alpaca, cotton, and sometimes wool although I don’t wear a lot of wool sweaters as they tend to be a bit itchy for me.

3. Jeans
An item everyone has in their closet is jeans and from Fall to Winter I prefer to wear either a bootcut or straight leg. Since I wear a lot of boots during these seasons these jeans fit the best with my boots. I save the skinny jeans for knee-high boots or cold weather boots in the snow.
I invested in these Agolde Straight leg jeans this Fall and have already worn them so much. They have the perfect rise, not too low but not too high and the length is great for me. The jean is technically a crop but on me, it hits exactly below my ankle. I am 5′ 5″ for reference.

4. Booties
Booties are one of those items that I can never have enough of it seems. I love a good bootie and in multiple colors also. It’s easy to justify buying booties in Kansas City because I wear them about 6 months out of the year including from Fall to Winter.
Sezane, Madewell, Everlane, and Other Stories are some of my favorite places to buy booties. I have bought at least one pair of booties from each of these stores which have been of great quality and lasted for over a few years.
I have been eyeing these Chelsea booties from Madewell for over a month now and think I might pull the trigger. I went to the store to try them on in person and they are so comfortable. Plus, I love how they have grips on the bottom for the ice and snow we get here in KC. I definitely prefer the English saddle color over the black.
I will be honest here again when it comes to booties. I have bought so many pairs over the years from Old Navy and Target and they just don’t hold up. I don’t want to buy new booties every year so I invest in ones that are more costly yet ones that will last longer.
Must-Have Booties
5. Leather Bag
A beautiful leather bag just ties the whole outfit together. Something simple, classic, and a neutral color. I love a beautiful black bag in the Fall and Winter months and a lighter color for Spring.
Bags are my vice in life so I spend money on my bags. I have found great-looking bags at Mango that are good quality and Cuyana and Clare V. are always affordable options as well if you aren’t looking to spend money on a designer bag.
As long as you love the bag that’s all that matters and it can be crossbody, shoulder, or even a tote.
