A Guide To Sézane Sizing
Guide To Sézane Sizing
Sézane has become my favorite French brand to wear over the years and one I receive lots of questions in regards to sizing. I am providing a guide to Sézane sizing on all the pieces I currently own and wear.
Since Sézane is a French brand, the sizing works a little differently compared to the standard U.S. sizes. Sizing with Sézane can run a bit smaller and there are certain pieces that I will size up on. However, Sézane provides a handy sizing chart to help explain which size should fit best.
Who Is Sézane
Sézane is a French brand I discovered in 2017 when I was googling French clothing brands. I ordered my first sweater from them and instantly fell in love with the brand. I have continued to add more and more pieces from Sézane each year.
The idea behind Sézane is to create high-quality, perfectly-cut pieces that can be worn forever. Sèzane was born in Paris & crafted using the expertise of the best ateliers.
The quality of each item is some of the best I’ve ever worn and the pieces I first bought back in 2017 are still just as beautiful today. You might spend a little more on each item but they are without a doubt worth the investment.
When Do New Sézane Collections Debut
Sézane has a very specific schedule when they release new collections, and you will want to know ahead of time so you are prepared. Items can sometimes sell out quickly.
- 4 times a year, large seasonal collections, always on SUNDAY
- Once a month, small capsules, always on SUNDAY
- Every Wednesday and Sunday, they restock sold-out items and might add a few late pieces to a collection.
Make sure to sign up for their emails because you will always be notified ahead of time about the upcoming lookbook. You can also follow them on Instagram to see videos of upcoming and recently released pieces.
I look forward to receiving emails and notifications from Sézane so I know what to put on my wishlist. You can also download the app to get firsthand looks before anyone else.
Certain items are considered Sézane essentials, and these items tend to always be in stock. Other items which are more seasonal will go quickly so if you see something you like, you should probably grab it.
Sézane Size Guide
Sézane provides a handy sizing guide listed on each page you can reference that shows French sizes converted to U.S. sizes. There will also be guidance on which size to consider.
For the most part, I take my normal size in most of their items. However, with some items, I will always go up a size, specifically denim. For reference, I am 5ft. 5 1/2 inches, size 6, and small in U.S. sizes. I would say I have a triangle shape, broad shoulders, a longer torso, and shorter legs. Most bottoms I need to have shortened.
If your order is over $200 U.S. dollars you qualify for free shipping. I always recommend if you are unsure or if this is your first time ordering Sézane, maybe order two sizes and return whichever one doesn’t work. Sézane always offers free returns and they rarely have any kind of sale.
You can also see this post here which shows all the Sèzane best sellers I have and sizing for those pieces as well.
Sézane Shipping And Return Policy
Sézane offers free shipping on any order over $200 and provides free returns. When you are ordering though, you don’t want a single order to be over $800 or you will incur additional customs and tax fees.
Returns are just as easy, however, you only have 15 days from the day you receive your order to register the return.
A Guide To Sézane Sizing On Pieces I Own
Below I am sharing all the Sézane pieces I own, and which size I take in each of the items. Again, I am 5ft. 5 1/2 inches, size 6, and small in U.S. sizes. I am listing each item by category. You can always see my favorite Sézane picks for each season here on the blog.
Sézane Sizing On Tops
Tomboy

The Tomboy shirt is probably the most perfect button-down that I would love to own in every color available. It’s hard to find a great button-down that’s thick enough yet comfortable to wear all day. You can feel the quality in this shirt and it looks great with a belt and jeans.
It’s also nice enough to wear with pants and pumps for work. I sized up to an 8 or 40 in European size in this top because I have broad shoulders. For a fitted look, you could size down.
Marinière

Nothing is more quintessential French, than a striped top or a marinière and Sézane has a great selection. The two tops I own are the Noan Marinière in a medium (however, if I ordered again, I would order a small), and the Colette, which I wear in a medium.
Amour Café Crème Sweatshirt

When I saw this Amour Café Crème sweatshirt I need I immediately needed to have this. This is my favorite coffee drink in Paris, so it only seems appropriate. Sézane sweatshirts are always nice and cozy. I always size up in sweatshirts because they tend to run a little small. This is a medium and fits just right.
Chlo

The Chlo is one of the signatures of Sézane tops which come in either silk or cotton and vary in colors for each season. I love this top because the detail is so beautiful and different. You can easily dress this top up or wear it more casually. I wear this top in my normal size of 6 in silk and cotton.
Dresses

This is the Vic dress I wore all Summer long in a size 6 or 38 in European size. Sézane does basic dresses very well with the best detailing. I specifically love their midi-length dresses because they always hit me in the right spot and are very flattering when worn. This is a perfect size and I wouldn’t size up or down in this dress. I am ordering Raquel and Tierra for the new season.
Guide To Sézane Sizing For Jackets
Scott Trench

My absolute favorite trench and one I wear pretty much year-round, especially as a layering piece in fall and transition coat in spring is the Sézane Scott Trench.
I did size up this trench to a U.S. 8 and French size 40. I want to be able to wear sweaters underneath, plus I have broad shoulders. If you are wanting a more fitted look, then maybe size down. The Scott Trench comes in 3 colors and I am wearing the camel.
Will Jacket

Sézane is known for its Will Jackets and this one in suede camel is beautiful and classic. I took a small in this jacket and it’s the perfect fit. The medium was too big which is surprising since I have broader shoulders. I am ordering the navy or ecru color for the spring season.
Johnson Coat

The Johnson Coat is such a classic and timeless piece. I have it in Navy and did size up to an 8 so I could wear sweaters underneath. I love the length and structure of the coat. It doesn’t have pockets so keep that in mind if that’s something you want. The Coat also comes in several other colors but I love the elegant look of the Navy.
James Coat

The gold buttons on this James Coat are what stand out to me, they add a bit of detail. You can either dress the coat up or down.
The James is a double-breasted coat with a shawl collar, mostly wool, and lined which I always appreciate in a coat.
I sized down on this coat to a 4, which is surprising because most of the time I will go up with a Sézane coat. So far, this might be my absolute fall favorite from Sézane.
I can still wear a sweater underneath but it’s a bit more fitted this way. If you want to wear a sweater underneath and still want a lot of room, then you might want to size up.
Mederick Coat

The Mederick Coat is a chic and classic wrap coat for the fall season. I had to size down 2 sizes in this coat for the right fit. It’s gorgeous and I will be wearing this coat for years to come.
Wilfried Jacket

The Wilfrield Jacket is a classic-fitting denim jacket that I wear in a medium. It’s easy to wear with tops, over dresses, and with a basic tee, trousers, and sneakers.
Blazers
Sézane has some of the best quality blazers, I have ever worn. They are always classic and timeless, and have some sort of detail that makes them stand out. Every time I am wearing a Sézane blazer I receive a compliment.
Michele

Navy is my favorite color so when I saw this Michele Jacket a few years ago, I immediately purchased it. The gold button details make the blazer stand out from the rest. I did size down in this blazer as it’s a little oversized and does fall below the hip. I am wearing a U.S. size 4 in this blazer and a French size 36.
Christie

Another favorite blazer is the Christie, which I own in camel and black in a U.S. size 6 and French size 38. I love to wear these blazers with jeans, a cami, and pumps.
Sweaters
Sézane sweaters are my absolute favorite and one item I tend to buy multiples of in the Fall and Winter seasons. The sweaters are so incredibly made, soft, and timeless. Depending on the sweater I will either take my normal size or go up a size if I want it to be a bit roomier. For cardigans, I always take a small and for other fitted sweaters, I will go up to a medium.
Trudy Jumper

The Trudy Jumper, which I am wearing in a small, is a mohair sweater with gold button details. It’s super cozy and is one of my go-to sweaters when the weather is cold.
Léontine Jumper

The Léontine is another classic striped sweater from Sézane which I wear in a medium. This is more of a lightweight sweater so it’s perfect between seasons and in spring.
Bottoms
Serge Trousers

The Serge Trousers, which are really jeans, are the perfect straight-leg, high-rise denim. I went up a size in these but honestly could have stayed with my normal size. They stretch a little after a few wears but not too much, where they lose their shape. I love these jeans and wish they would offer them in other color variations.
Austin Trousers

A classic-looking pair of pants are the Austin Trousers, which I own in black and loved so much bought the grey for fall. They are beautifully made, fit amazing, and the length is perfect to wear with pumps, ballet flats, or even sneakers. I did go up a size in these.
Shoes
I believe that you get what you pay for, and that includes shoes. I don’t mind investing in shoes now that I can wear them all day long and are going to continue to be comfortable for hours. I’ve had several pairs of Sézane shoes and boots over the years and they are worth the money.
Jack Sneaker

The Jack Trainers are probably some of the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn. I took these to Paris and walked about 25,000 plus steps a day. Not once did I get a blister or any kind of rub from these sneakers.
They are beautiful leather sneakers that I took my regular size of 6.5. These sneakers are more of a cream vs. true white but you will not regret purchasing these sneakers.
Gloria Sandals

I love the gold color of these Gloria Sandals, which I wear with jeans and dresses. The pop of gold in the shoe is unexpected and they go with so many different outfits. I wear my normal size in these sandals.
Bags
Farrow Bucket Bag

The Farrow is my first actual bucket bag and I love it so much. I bought it in Paris last year and have used it nonstop since. The leather is gorgeous and it hasn’t scratched at all.
The bag also doesn’t feel heavy even though it’s leather and is easy to carry around. It comes in 3 different sizes and I am carrying the middle size.
Milo Classic Bag

The Milo Classic, is a gorgeous leather bag that can be worn on the shoulder or crossbody. I have the natural heritage but it also comes in three other colors as well.
If you are looking to invest in high-quality and beautiful pieces that will last for years to come then Sézane needs to be on your list of places to shop.
As I invest and collect more pieces from Sézane I will continue to share about sizing as I know it always helps others. Please also leave a comment if you’ve ordered a piece and what your thoughts are on size.

Hi,
I love your post! I have saved it as reference for future purchases. I just received my Collette in size M but it seems a bit large. I am also 5’2 1/2 and wear a 34D bra. Is the Collette mariner supposed to be a little boxy? I just don’t want to go through the hassle of returning the item. I will be going to Paris in September and plan on picking up some of those beauties you mentioned.
Also, which store do you shop in? I’ll be staying in Montmartre.
Thanks!
Monica
Hi Monica!
Thank you, I am so glad you like the post. The Colette is not boxy on me, I am 5′ 5 1/2″ and a 34C, so it fits just right. However, you want to make it perfect on you. I shop at the The Paris (17) Appartement
63 boulevard des Batignolles, 75017 Paris.
Also, the one on the left bank, however, the appartement is closer to you. Have a wonderful trip, September is beautiful month to go!
Have a great day.

Hi!
I love ur blog! Have always wanted to try Sezane as you style them beautifully & I feel they are the go to brand for the Parisian style. I ended up ordering & keeping the navy Michele blazer & camel Christie blazer! I normally wear a 10 in blazers from jcrew or a Med in other brands but for these I ordered an 8 in both. Roomy but not too oversized. I feel a 10 would have been too big. Im going to order the Colette & Leontine next!
Thank you for posting recommendations & sizing! Super helpful!
Lena
Hi Lena!
Thank you so much for your sweet words! Those are two of my favorite blazers, I think you made the right choice by going down a size! I hope you love wearing them! My absolute favorite brand. Have a great day!

I really liked your run down of the sizing and the pictures of the items and the fit. Do you mention anywhere on your blog your measurements? I’m trying to figure out what will work with me with the Sezane items and I’m a little bit between a 6 and 8. I’ve taken my measurements, converted them to cm and compared to the Sezane size chart (thanks for the hyperlink!), but I’m curious to know how I would compare size-wize to you as an example. Thanks for this post. It was fun and lovely to read. (also the button below to submit comments looks invisible on my browser…)
Hi Roxanne! I don’t think I mention my measurements anywhere. I am 5 5 1/2 and a small in tops and 6 in bottoms. I am an hourglass shape if that helps at all! Thank you for the comment button, I will get that fixed asap. Thanks for reading!
Noey, thank you. I have been searching Sezane’s site for a size chart. I too wear small tops unless they button up. Because of my chest size 36D, they button shirts in small tend to pull and gap at the top buttons. Do you have this problem with Sezane’s button up shirts or do you always size up on them (I think I read you sized up on the button you posted a picture of). THANK YOU AGAIN for this great post!!!
Hi! Yes, I know exactly what you’re describing. It depends on the top but most of their tops I will size up unless the top specifically states that it’s oversized, then I will stay with my normal size. I just ordered a few new button tops for Spring so will report back on the sizing of those tops. So glad the post helped! I would say size up and see if you’re comfortable. The best thing is they offer free returns so if it doesn’t work out you can always return the item.
