A Guide To Sézane Sizing

A Guide To Sézane Sizing

Sézane has become my favorite French brand to wear over the years and one I receive lots of questions on in regards to sizing. I am providing a guide to Sézane sizing on all the pieces I currently own and wear.

Since Sézane is a French brand, the sizing works a little differently compared to the standard U.S. sizes. Sizing with Sézane can run a bit smaller and there are certain pieces that I will size up on. However, Sézane provides a handy sizing chart to help explain which size should fit best.

Who Is Sézane

Sézane is a French brand I discovered in 2017 when I was googling French clothing brands. I ordered my first sweater from them and instantly fell in love with the brand. I have continued to add more and more pieces from Sézane each year.

The idea behind Sézane is to create high-quality, perfectly-cut pieces that can be worn forever. Sèzane was born in Paris & crafted using the expertise of the best ateliers.

The quality of each item is some of the best I’ve ever worn and the pieces I first bought back in 2017 are still just as beautiful today. You might spend a little more on each item but they are without a doubt worth the investment.

When Do New Sézane Collections Debut

Sézane has a very specific schedule when they release new collections, and you will want to know ahead of time so you are prepared. Items can sometimes sell out quickly.

  • 4 times a year, large seasonal collections, always on SUNDAY
  • Once a month, small capsules, always on SUNDAY
  • Every Wednesday and Sunday, they restock sold-out items and might add a few late pieces to a collection.

Make sure to sign up for their emails because you will always be notified ahead of time about the upcoming lookbook. You can also follow them on Instagram to see videos of upcoming and recently released pieces.

I look forward to receiving emails and notifications from Sézane so I know what to put on my wishlist. You can also download the app to get firsthand looks before anyone else.

Certain items are considered Sézane essentials, and these items tend to always be in stock. Other items which are more seasonal will go quickly so if you see something you like, you should probably grab it.

Sézane Size Guide

Sézane provides a handy sizing guide listed on each page you can reference that shows French sizes converted to U.S. sizes. There will also be guidance on which size to consider.

For the most part, I take my normal size in most of their items. However, with some items, I will always go up a size, specifically denim. For reference, I am 5ft. 5 1/2 inches, size 6, and small in U.S. sizes. I would say I have a triangle shape, broad shoulders, a longer torso, and shorter legs. Most bottoms I need to have shortened.

Sézane Shipping And Return Policy

Sézane offers free standard delivery on any order over $200 and free express delivery on any order over $500. When you are ordering though, keep in mind, that you don’t want a single order to be over $800 or you will incur additional customs and tax fees.

Returns are just as easy, however, you only have 14 days from the day you receive your order to register the return.

A Guide To Sézane Sizing On Pieces I Own

Below I am sharing all the Sézane pieces I own, and which size I take in each of the items. Again, I am 5ft. 5 1/2 inches, size 6, and small in U.S. sizes. I am listing each item by category. You can always see my favorite Sézane picks for each season here on the blog.

Sézane Tops

Chlo

The Chlo is one of the signatures of Sézane tops which come in either silk or cotton and vary in colors for each season. I love this top because the detail is so beautiful and different with the ruffle collar and drop sleeves. You can easily dress this top up or wear it more casually. I wear this top in my normal size of 6 in silk and cotton.

I own this top in the navy, ecru, and black colors and wear each of them consistently. If you are looking for a gorgeous silk top to elevate your outfits, this is the one.

Annabelle Blouse

Woman wearing annabelle blouse | A Guide To Sézane Sizing

The Annabelle Blouse is the perfect top for spring and summer with the gorgeous eyelet detail. Sézane eyelet tops are some of the best around because of the detail and patterns on the top. In the eyelet tops, I usually take my normal size of 6, unless the brand recommends sizing up.

Tomboy

The Tomboy shirt is probably the most perfect button-down that I would love to own in every color available. It’s hard to find a great button-down that’s thick enough yet comfortable to wear all day. You can feel the quality in this shirt and it looks great with a belt and jeans. I own this top in the blue and white color.

It’s also nice enough to wear with pants and pumps for work. I sized up to an 8 or 40 in European size in this top because I have broad shoulders. For a fitted look, you could size down.

Shop Tops

Marinière

Nothing is more quintessential French, than a striped top or a marinière and Sézane has a great selection. The two tops I own are the Noan Marinière in a medium (however, if I ordered again, I would order a small), and the Colette, which I wear in a medium.

Dresses

I love the beautiful detailing on this Adele Dress I wear in size 6. It’s the perfect midi-length dress to wear for special occasions or everyday use. I also own the Raquel Dress that I also wear a 6 in as well.

This is the Paola Dress which I love to wear in fall with short and tall boots. I am wearing a small in the dress, it does fit a bit looser versus form fitting.

I love the gold detail buttons down the sides of the arm and it’s just a cute classic piece for the season. You could also wear a navy blazer or denim jacket over the dress as well to dress it up a bit.

Guide To Sézane Sizing For Jackets

Scott Trench

My absolute favorite trench and one I wear pretty much year-round, especially as a layering piece in fall and transition coat in spring is the Sézane Scott Trench.

I did size up this trench to a U.S. 8 and French size 40. I want to be able to wear sweaters underneath, plus I have broad shoulders. If you want a more fitted look, then maybe size down. The Scott Trench comes in 3 colors and I am wearing the camel.

Clyde Trench

Woman wearing sezane light trench coat and dark denim walking across the street.

The Clyde Trench is the brand’s latest trench version for the season and one they can’t keep in stock. The Clyde is oversized, I sized down 2 sizes for the perfect fit, with a classic collar and button opening down the middle.

There is no tie component to the Clyde, it’s an open trench unless you button it up. The inside lining is also a check pattern in each color that’s offered, there are 5 different colors of the Clyde, I have the ecru version.

Will Jacket

Sézane is known for its Will Jackets and this one in suede camel is beautiful and classic. I took a small in this jacket and it’s the perfect fit. The medium was too big which is surprising since I have broader shoulders. I am ordering the navy or ecru color for the spring season.

Johnson Coat

The Johnson Coat is such a classic and timeless piece. I have it in Navy and did size up to an 8 so I could wear sweaters underneath. I love the length and structure of the coat.

The Coat also comes in several other colors but I love the elegant look of the Navy. The Johnson is also lined as well, providing some extra warmth.

James Coat

The gold buttons on this James Coat are what stand out to me, they add a bit of detail. You can either dress the coat up or down.

The James is a double-breasted coat with a shawl collar, mostly wool, and lined which I always appreciate in a coat.

I sized down on this coat to a 4, which is surprising because most of the time I will go up with a Sézane coat. So far, this might be my absolute fall favorite from Sézane.

I can still wear a sweater underneath but it’s a bit more fitted this way. If you want to wear a sweater underneath and still want a lot of room, then you might want to size up.

Mederick Coat

The Mederick Coat is a chic and classic wrap coat for the fall season. I had to size down 2 sizes in this coat for the right fit. It’s gorgeous and I will be wearing this coat for years to come.

Wilfried Jacket

The Wilfrield Jacket is a classic-fitting denim jacket that I wear in a medium. It’s easy to wear with tops, over dresses, and with a basic tee, trousers, and sneakers.

Blazers

Sézane has some of the best quality blazers, I have ever worn. They are always classic and timeless, and have some sort of detail that makes them stand out. Every time I am wearing a Sézane blazer I receive a compliment.

Michele

Navy is my favorite color so when I saw this Michele Jacket a few years ago, I immediately purchased it. The gold button details make the blazer stand out from the rest. I did size down in this blazer as it’s a little oversized and does fall below the hip. I am wearing a U.S. size 4 in this blazer and a French size 36.

Here’s the Michele in the Houndstooth which I am also wearing in a size U.S. 4 and French size 36. This is the perfect blazer for fall and the winter season due to its dark colorway and houndstooth pattern.

I am also wearing the Vicky Loafer here in my normal size and Milo Vintage bag.

Christie

Woman wearing denim, black blazer, white tee.

Another favorite blazer is the Christie, which I own in camel and black in a U.S. size 6 and French size 38. I love to wear these blazers with jeans, a cami, pumps, and sneakers.

Shop Coats and Jackets

Sweaters

Sézane sweaters are my absolute favorite and one item I tend to buy multiples of in the Fall and Winter seasons. The sweaters are so incredibly made, soft, and timeless. Depending on the sweater I will either take my normal size or go up a size if I want it to be a bit roomier. For cardigans, I always take a small and for other fitted sweaters, I will go up to a medium.

Betty Cardigan

The Betty Cardigan, is timeless and classic, and has become a true staple for the brand. Betty is a long sleeve, merino wool cardigan with buttons down the front and chest pockets on each side.

Betty comes in a wide array of colors for each new season and can easily be dressed up with trousers or worn casually with jeans. I wear the Betty in a size medium and it’s the perfect fit for a t-shirt or tank underneath.

GASPARD

The Gaspard is an iconic sweater from the brand and one they carry every year in an array of colors. I wear a small in the Gaspard but you can certainly size up for more of a relaxed look.

One of my favorite details about the Gaspard is you can wear it two ways with the buttons in the back or like a regular cardigan, with the buttons in the front.

The Gaspard can be itchy for some and I always suggest wearing a cami underneath if sweaters like this bother you.

Samuel Jumper

The Samuel Jumper is a sleeveless sweater perfect for those in between seasons. I wear the Samuel in size small. The jumper comes in several colors and has been quite popular the last few seasons. It’s one of those pieces you can easily throw on and go with denim or pants.

Jacob Jumper

The Jacob Jumper is one of my favorite sweaters from Sézane and a style that I own 3 colors. The jumper is like a mock turtleneck but a bit elevated with the gold button details on the collar.

I wear a medium in this sweater and wear it by itself with jeans or pants, under blazers, under jackets, and even under cardigans.

Trudy Jumper

The Trudy Jumper, which I am wearing in a small, is a mohair sweater with gold button details. It’s super cozy and is one of my go-to sweaters when the weather is cold.

Bottoms and Skirts

Gillie Skirt

I love to wear the Gillie Skirt in the fall and winter months with black tights and boots. Although it’s a short skirt it doesn’t feel too short for me and I wear a size 6.

Trousers

I love the leg-lengthening effect of Sézane denim with the high waist and wide legs. For fall go with styles such as the Marino, Droit, or Matheo. I usually go up one size in most Sézane denim fits (with the exception of a few), as they tend to run on the smaller side.

Emilio Trousers

Woman wearing light colored blue jeans with stripe sweater in front of a mirror.

Classis pair of denim trousers, the Emilio, are mid-rise and ankle length. I take my normal size in these jeans and love the length.

Austin Trousers

A classic-looking pair of pants are the Austin Trousers, which I own in black and loved so much bought the grey for fall. They are beautifully made, fit amazing, and the length is perfect to wear with pumps, ballet flats, or even sneakers. I did go up a size in these.

Shop Bottoms

Shoes

I believe that you get what you pay for, and that includes shoes. I don’t mind investing in shoes now that I can wear them all day long and are going to continue to be comfortable for hours. I’ve had several pairs of Sézane shoes and boots over the years and they are worth the money.

High Maxine Sandal

Woman wearing high maxine sandals from sezane.

The High Maxine Sandal is a beautiful high heel with a buckle strap that wraps around the ankle. Normally, I wouldn’t gravitate towards such a high heel but these sandals are incredibly comfortable.

I took my normal size in the smooth camel and found it fit perfectly. The heels are comfortable enough to stand in for a few hours although I wouldn’t walk miles in them. The Maxine is a great addition to longer-length denim, trousers, and even dresses.

HORTENSE HIGH SANDALS

Woman wearing gold sandals standing against a wall.

The Hortense High Sandal is another sandal I have fallen in love with this season. Gold sandals are my favorite shoe color to wear. They can instantly elevate any outfit and are the one shoe color I reach for when I am not sure what color to wear.

These sandals are a bit higher than I would normally choose but I think for the right occasion they are appropriate. I wouldn’t wear them to walk miles in but for elegant looks with denim and even skirts and dresses, they are a beautiful option. I take my normal size of 6.5 in these shoes.

Soline Mary Jane

As soon as I saw these Mary Janes on the website this spring, I immediately added them to my cart. They are incredibly chic, classic, and so Parisian. I wear my normal size in these shoes.

Regarding comfort level, they are extremely comfortable for the height although they aren’t shoes I would walk miles in by any means. Overall, however, they are comfortable and easy to wear with denim and trousers.

I shared a reel with several ways to style this shoe here on Instagram.

Low Aly Sandals

Overhead photo of black fisherman sandals on a wood floor.

One of my favorite shoe purchases this year has been the Low Aly Sandals, which I wear in my regular size. I purchased this sandal because last year I wanted a pair of fisherman sandals and the ones I wanted sold out before I could get them.

I purchased these Low Aly and was a bit worried they would be too heavy. They are one of my most comfortable sandals and are not heavy at all. I am surprised by how comfortable they are and how much I have worn them.

Axelle Ankle Boot

The Axelle Ankle boots are new to me for the season and they are amazing. I have worn them with so many differnt outfits already this fall season. They are incredibly comfortable and a beautiful color that makes any basic outfit pop. I took my normal size in these boots.

Adèle boots

The Adèle Boots are perfect for those evenings when you want to dress up your outfits with tall boots. I wear my normal size in these boots and am amazed how incredibly comfortable they are.

I wore these boots all throughout Paris during the fall one evening without any sort of blister. The height is great, the fit is great, and they are a great addition for the season to wear with dresses and skirts.

Jack Sneaker

The Jack Trainers are probably some of the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn. I took these to Paris and walked about 25,000 plus steps a day. I never got a blister or any kind of rub from these sneakers.

They are beautiful leather sneakers that I took my regular size of 6.5. These sneakers are more of a cream vs. true white but you will not regret purchasing these sneakers.

Gloria Sandals

The Gloria Sandals are one of my most worn shoes during most seasons. I love these shoes so much because that can instantly elevate any outfit. The block heel height is perfect for me and I can walk several hours in these shoes.

The pop of gold in the shoe is unexpected and they go with so many different outfit combinations. I wear these sandals with jeans, trousers, dresses, and even skirts. I wear the Gloria Sandal in my normal size.

Bags

Claude Bag

Woman in white blazer and denim with white sezane bag.

Love this super chic bag, the Claude, that I own in the ecru version. It’s super simple, classic, and the half moon shape is unique yet striking.

The bag holds more than it looks like it would with all my necessary essentials. It will fit my iPhone 15, small wallet, keys, pen, lipstick, and my sunglasses and sunglass case.

Justine basket

I purchased the Justine Basket Bag last spring when it first came out and it sold out immediately. I have the dark raffia color, which is a dark navy. Now, it comes in multiple colors and even a smaller size. It’s the perfect basket bag with leather ties and a pouch inside to keep your valuables safe.

Farrow Bucket Bag

The Farrow is my first actual bucket bag and I love it so much. I bought it in Paris last year and have used it nonstop since. The leather is gorgeous and it hasn’t scratched at all.

The bag also doesn’t feel heavy even though it’s leather and is easy to carry around. It comes in 3 different sizes and I am carrying the middle size.

Milo Classic Bag

Essentials of a French wardrobe to have in your closet to look stylish and chic.

The Milo Classic, is a gorgeous leather bag that can be worn on the shoulder or crossbody. I have the natural heritage but it also comes in three other colors as well.

If you are looking to invest in high-quality and beautiful pieces that will last for years to come then Sézane needs to be on your list of places to shop.

As I invest and collect more pieces from Sézane I will continue to share about sizing as I know it always helps others. Please also leave a comment if you’ve ordered a piece and what your thoughts are on size.

Milo Vintage Taupe

The Milo Taupe has been on my radar for a bit now but is usually sold out. When it came back in stock this fall season, I immediately grabbed it. It’s such a beautiful color combination and so perfect for the fall and autumn seasons.

  1. Thank you for your beautiful Sezane post! This is my favorite French brand and it is very helpful to see the items you mentioned worn in real life on your photos. Enjoy your gorgeous wardrobe!

    1. Hi Theresa,
Thank you so much! I am so glad it’s helpful. I always like to see the clothes on people also to get a real sense of how they fit.

  2. Hi Noey, I just found your post and find it so helpful!
Would you mind to share your feet size and what size you got in Axelle boots, please?
I’m usually size 38 EU but 7.5 US and in Sezane’s chart they mention 38 as US 7..
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Karen,
Thank you so much and I am so glad it’s helpful. Yes, I am a true 6.5 in both U.S. and EU sizes. I bought a 6.5 in the Axelle boots and they fit perfectly. Usually, I always buy my normal size in Sezane shoes. Hope this helps, have a wonderful day!

  3. Hi,
I love your post! I have saved it as reference for future purchases. I just received my Collette in size M but it seems a bit large. I am also 5’2 1/2 and wear a 34D bra. Is the Collette mariner supposed to be a little boxy? I just don’t want to go through the hassle of returning the item. I will be going to Paris in September and plan on picking up some of those beauties you mentioned.
Also, which store do you shop in? I’ll be staying in Montmartre.
    Thanks!
    Monica

    1. Hi Monica!

Thank you, I am so glad you like the post. The Colette is not boxy on me, I am 5′ 5 1/2″ and a 34C, so it fits just right. However, you want to make it perfect on you. I shop at the The Paris (17) Appartement
63 boulevard des Batignolles, 75017 Paris.

Also, the one on the left bank, however, the appartement is closer to you. Have a wonderful trip, September is beautiful month to go!
      Have a great day.

  4. Hi!

I love ur blog! Have always wanted to try Sezane as you style them beautifully & I feel they are the go to brand for the Parisian style. I ended up ordering & keeping the navy Michele blazer & camel Christie blazer! I normally wear a 10 in blazers from jcrew or a Med in other brands but for these I ordered an 8 in both. Roomy but not too oversized. I feel a 10 would have been too big. Im going to order the Colette & Leontine next!

Thank you for posting recommendations & sizing! Super helpful!

    Lena

    1. Hi Lena!
Thank you so much for your sweet words! Those are two of my favorite blazers, I think you made the right choice by going down a size! I hope you love wearing them! My absolute favorite brand. Have a great day!
      xo-Noelani

  5. I really liked your run down of the sizing and the pictures of the items and the fit. Do you mention anywhere on your blog your measurements? I’m trying to figure out what will work with me with the Sezane items and I’m a little bit between a 6 and 8. I’ve taken my measurements, converted them to cm and compared to the Sezane size chart (thanks for the hyperlink!), but I’m curious to know how I would compare size-wize to you as an example. Thanks for this post. It was fun and lovely to read. (also the button below to submit comments looks invisible on my browser…)

    1. Hi Roxanne! I don’t think I mention my measurements anywhere. I am 5 5 1/2 and a small in tops and 6 in bottoms. I am an hourglass shape if that helps at all! Thank you for the comment button, I will get that fixed asap. Thanks for reading!

      1. Noey, thank you. I have been searching Sezane’s site for a size chart. I too wear small tops unless they button up. Because of my chest size 36D, they button shirts in small tend to pull and gap at the top buttons. Do you have this problem with Sezane’s button up shirts or do you always size up on them (I think I read you sized up on the button you posted a picture of). THANK YOU AGAIN for this great post!!!

        1. Hi! Yes, I know exactly what you’re describing. It depends on the top but most of their tops I will size up unless the top specifically states that it’s oversized, then I will stay with my normal size. I just ordered a few new button tops for Spring so will report back on the sizing of those tops. So glad the post helped! I would say size up and see if you’re comfortable. The best thing is they offer free returns so if it doesn’t work out you can always return the item.
