French girls keep their transition jackets for Autumn simple yet classic but always looking stylish. These are transition jackets you will find in most French women’s closets and ones they are wearing for the Fall season.
What Defines A Transition Jacket
A transitional jacket is a wardrobe essential that literally takes you from one transition to the next, from one season to the next season. Basically, they are jackets you can easily interchange between seasons and are mostly worn during the transition to Fall and the transition to Spring.
Transition jackets are some of the best investment pieces you can make for your wardrobe and I find myself reaching for mine for more than one season.
Invest in a good French girl-inspired fall jacket and you will have it for years to come while also looking stylish, chic, and timeless.
These 5 transition jackets are actually perfect for any season, and several of them can be worn well into the Fall and even layered in Winter.
How Do French Girls Wear Fall Transition Jackets
French girls wear Fall transition jackets with denim, go for a straight-leg or wide-leg for this season. A sweater or button-down, and sneakers or loafers for Autumn.
For the ultimate French girl look, keep it effortless, but still timeless and chic. Add a little piece of jewelry to your outfit and a French girl’s red lip.
Where To Shop For Fall French Girl Jackets
5 French Girl Inspired Jackets For Fall
1. The Blazer
A blazer is one of the most versatile Fall French girl jackets you can have in your wardrobe and a perfect transition jacket for Autumn.
Blazers are easy to layer, wear a t-shirt or tank underneath for warmer temps. When it gets cooler, wear a sweater or long-sleeved t-shirt underneath.
You can wear a linen one well into September, despite the rule of you should never wear linen after Labor Day, nobody follows those rules anymore.
As the weather does get cooler, opt more for a wool blazer which is a bit heavier. There is nothing chicer than a great-looking blazer, denim, and ballet flats.
This season wear Herringbone, a classic navy, timeless black blazer, or a chic pinstripe blazer as a transition jacket. A beautiful long blazer vest is also a classic and chic option.
My favorite places to shop for blazers are Sézane, Mango, J.CREW, Everlane, and ba&sh Paris. I have found the quality to be great, the price is reasonable, and the fit is just right.

2. Trench Coat
What could be more classic French than a trench coat between seasons? Not only will you find a trench coat in all Parisian women’s closets but it’s the perfect transition between season coats.
A quality trench coat is not only classic but will keep you warm amidst the cold, rainy days that come between seasons.
You can always go with the traditional trench coat color of beige or khaki or add in some color this fall season with a navy or green trench coat. There are also several lengths of trench coats this season depending on which type you prefer.
My favorite trench coat is the Scott Sézane (I sized up). Of course, the ultimate trench coat is a Burberry but MANGO, J.Crew, Banana Republic, and & Other Stories also have trench coat options as well.

3. Suede Jacket
A suede jacket is not only sexy and chic but it’s great between seasons. You can easily wear this in Winter as well by layering it under a heavier wool coat. During the Spring, throw it over a slip dress to dress it up a bit.
Suede jackets can be a bit pricey but like anything else, you have to think about how much you will wear the jacket. A good one will last you for many many years and never goes out of style.
A suede jacket also adds a little edge to your outfit yet is still classic and very timeless. You can wear either a short biker version like this one from Sézane or go with a longer version.
One of my favorite versions is the Will version from Sézane(I have the small) for more of a fitted look. You can always size up for an oversized look or if you want to layer underneath.
Other places with beautiful suede jackets are Banana Republic with a trucker style and blazer style as well.

4. Tweed Jacket
Tweed jackets are always in season and there are always different versions from many different brands because they are timeless, elegant, and classic. Above, I am wearing this cream one and this black one, both from Mango.
This season, Tweed jackets seem to be everywhere, even though we go through this each Fall and Spring season. That’s why they are such a great Fall transition jacket to have in your wardrobe.
You can wear a silk cami under them with trousers for a classic look or dress them down with denim and slingbacks. Black is the color of choice for a tweed jacket during Fall but you can also go with Ivory/Cream or Navy as well to remain timeless.
Investing in a tweed jacket from brands like Sandro, Ba&sh Paris, or Veronica Beard, will never steer you wrong. However, if you are looking for a more affordable option try places like Mango or H&M, which are always carrying a version of a tweed jacket.
This season J.Crew also has an amazing selection of tweed jackets like the Frances Lady and the Louisa Lady.

5. Cozy Cardigan
A warm and cozy cardigan is an excellent option for a Fall transition jacket that can be worn between seasons if you are the type of person who doesn’t need anything heavy and doesn’t want a lot of layers.
Alpaca and wool are great for either wearing a little cami underneath or nothing at all but will still keep you warm.
You can wear a lightweight cotton cardigan with a t-shirt or button-down underneath for a bit more layering.
Choose a short or long version of a cardigan depending on which look you want to go with. I usually prefer a longer cardigan for cozy days at home. For a date night look, I like to do a shorter cardigan with a little front tucked into denim and boots.
There are so many great places for cardigans and this is another piece I prefer to invest in a pay a little more than I usually would.
For the Fall transition, I love the Basile Cardigan from Sézane( I have a small), the Mia Cardigan(small also), and the Cable-knit from J.Crew (I wear a medium). The Gaspard cardigan from ba&sh Paris is a classic piece every year (I wear a medium).
