What to Wear When in Paris: For Every Season

Paris, the city of love, is one of only a few fashion capitals in the world. It is known just as much for the Eiffel Tower as it is for the fashionable women strutting down its cobblestone streets. Today, I am sharing a roundup of ideas on what to wear in Paris during every season.

As you plan your trip to Paris, don’t forget to prepare your outfits before you begin to pack. If you’re like me, even if you’re trying to pack light, you wouldn’t dream of visiting Paris without having several fashionable outfits planned. That said, choosing what to pack for Paris, including which outfits to wear, can be just as tricky as it is exciting.

So, today I’m sharing a round-up of outfits you can wear in Paris to look as chic as a local Parisian.

Dress Like A Local In These Paris Outfits

I often mention the French Wardrobe Philosophy or the idea that you should invest in high-quality, versatile pieces that you can wear time and time again, therefore buying less over time. I urge you to consider this philosophy as you make your packing list for Paris.

One of the many reasons I adore Parisian style is because the locals make fashion and style look effortless. Even their casual, everyday looks are pristine and chic. It can be said that Parisian locals are the most fashionable people in the world. If you want to look less like a tourist, fit in with the locals, and make a fashion statement that could land you on a Best Dressed list, consider the following outfits for your trip to the City of Love.

What To Wear When In Paris

Spring Paris Outfits Ideas

Cardigan + Jeans + Ballet Flats

For a stylish outfit to wear in Paris in the spring, consider a classic cardigan. This Alex Mill Paris cardigan is a personal favorite. It can be worn open with a silk cami underneath, but with the gorgeous gold buttons, I like wearing it buttoned up. Style it with a pair of high-rise jeans to match current Parisian style trends.

For shoes, opt for either slingbacks or ballet flats. Ballet flats are arguably the most important item in a woman’s Paris-inspired wardrobe. French women love Chanel ballet flats or Repetto flats. You can find some great affordable options at Everlane, Nordstrom, and J.Crew.

Linen Blazer + Tee + Tailored Pants + Flats

Another chic spring outfit to wear in Paris features a polished linen blazer. This J. Crew linen blazer, in any shade, is a classic spring staple. You can easily mix and match it with other pieces in your wardrobe to create different looks all year long.

Wear a tee underneath, and add a silk scarf for an elevated touch of Parisian style. Then, slip on a pair of tailored pants or trousers, like this pair of linen trousers from J.Crew, with flats for an effortless daytime look.

Summer Paris Outfits Ideas

White Button Down + Jeans + Flats + Leather Handbag

For one of the most classic looks, a French woman can wear, start with a crisp white button-down. A good quality white button-down is a staple because it’s just as versatile as it is chic. Pair it with jeans, ballet flats, and a leather handbag for a beautiful summer outfit that fits right in on the streets of Paris.

To effortlessly transition this look from day to night, simply add a blazer and swap the flats for heels.

Little Black Dress

One of my favorite summer looks features a chic little black dress. French women often own several LBDs, so they have one for nearly every occasion.

For a day spent exploring the sights and sounds of Paris, instead of short shorts, slip on a stylish LBD, like this stunning yet simple slip dress

Unless you’re at the beach, leave the flip-flops at home and reach for a pair of wedges or heels for a dressier look, or keep it casual with white sneakers. When the temperature drops, throw on a leather jacket… Ooh la la!

Fall Paris Outfits Ideas

Blazer + Breton Striped Shirt (a.k.a. Marinère) + Wide-Leg Jeans + Heels

I’m reaching for a blazer again for this fall outfit idea, but this time I’m pairing it with a striped shirt. French women love the nautical aesthetic, so I like to play into it with a Breton striped shirt, or a Marinère.

I adore the Colette and Noan Marinière both by Sézane, especially worn with wide-leg jeans.

Denim Jacket + Pants + Sneakers

I love the versatility of a good denim jacket. This denim jacket from Sézane is one of my favorites. For a casual look, slip on a pair of black denim pants, like these from Madewell, then add a tee and a good pair of white sneakers. You’re ready for a day exploring Paris like a true French woman!

Winter Paris Outfit Idea

Trench Coat + Sweater + Tailored Pants + Ankle Boots

This outfit is one of my go-to brunch outfits! Although you might want to opt for a wool coat for added warmth on especially cold winter days, a trench coat over a sweater is usually perfect for staying warm and looking on point during a visit to Paris in the winter.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a French woman who doesn’t own a classic trench coat. Their versatility makes them a must-have, so I recommend investing in a good one. My favorite is the  Scott Trench from Sézane.

To look like a local on the streets of Paris, style your trench coat with a warm sweater, tailored pants or black denim, and ankle boots.
